We regretfully announce that Development Squad Head Coach and Assistant Manager Jamie Roberts has stepped down from his role following the end of the Development season. Andy Hockley will continue as the Development Manager and will announce a new Assistant Manager next season.
Message from Jamie Roberts following his departure...
"I am absolutely saddened to be leaving this football club of which I have been here since 17 years of age. In my 13 years at this club, I have enjoyed high and lows but most importantly it has been the scene of my footballing career so far. I have made so many friends and this club means so much to me.
I retired from playing at 27, 3 years ago but wanted to stay with the club and in football and I was given the opportunity to help with the Reserves which I jumped at the chance to! I have since been Assistant to Andy (Hockley) with the Development Squad and enjoyed two great years learning the ropes.
Firstly I would like to thank Bob Rayner for giving me my debut at 17 years of age in the first team away at Flamstead. It was my first involvement in men's football and I went on to have 10 more years at this level. I suffered several knee injuries throughout my playing career which kept me out for so long and had to keep starting again. It most definitely hampered my career and I believe could never fulfill my potential.
I would also like to thank James Tovey for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to stay at the club and coach the young lads in the Reserves. He saw I had a good footballing brain and made me his coach. We won the Reserve Challenge Trophy in our first season which was great!
I want to thank Jamie Rayner and Nick Young for all their help and kind words over the past few years. They also have given me a chance to be part of the 1st team management team this season when one of them was unavailable and it was a great experience.
Lastly I would like to thank Andy Hockley for the past two years. I have learnt so much of the great man. We have become close friends which his wife will tell you because of the amount we were on the phone to each other. We both had similar views on how a team should be ran and the same views on styles of play, etc and it worked so well together. I have enjoyed every minute working with Andy and I wish him all the best for next season, whatever division they will be in. I will really miss being involved.
My final words are that I love this club and it is a fantastic place to apply your trade. I have seen so many players leave because they think the grass is greener but they always come back within months or the next season. This clubs drags you in and you fall in love with it! The chairman and the committee do an amazing job with the budget they are on and they do not get enough credit.
I look forward to spending my spare time now with my family and my soon to be here little girl. I will be down to support the teams next season when I can and in a few years I hope to be back in football (hopefully). Thank you everyone at Risborough Rangers Football Club."
We thank Jamie for all his efforts and passion he brings to the club. He will be greatly missed on the touchline and around the club.
