Take it on the Chin
Cup run continues for the Rrrrsss
Another game with a near full on strength team for our 3rd Cup game in 7 days we travelled to near step 6 neighbours Chinnor FC and to be honest fancied our chance of another higher opposition scalp.
With changes to the starting line up with Rhys Crowther, Ryan Davies and Rhys Merriman coming into the starting 11.
Chris Hurford-Green and Isaiah Inniss returning to the squad on the bench giving us strength to make changes if required.
This was never going to be a lesson in football like seen at Burnham on Tuesday.
The home team being very direct and to be fair winning a lot of the battles in midfield whilst being solid in the aerial battles at the back. The home side took the lead in the 10th minute when their no 10 was given so much space and time to shoot home from the corner of the box.
It was not the fluent passing game we were used to playing but I guess it changed on 25 minutes when Chinnor were rightly awarded a penalty which Rhys Crowther easily saved to his right.
Half time 0-1 and Rangers still in the game
Second half begins and we look more organised and willing to play out the back starting to cause more problems.
Rhys punched a cross out in the 55th min but injured his hand in the process and needed to be replaced by our sub GK Andrew Symonds who stepped right in and played well.
On 60 minutes enter Dan Deakin and he immediately made an impression with his pace and trickery getting at the right back who had come on at the same time advancing into the box the ball fell nice to Dan Deakin who took no time to slam it home for the equaliser.
1-1 game on
Chinnor did have a couple of chances but it was us that looked the fitter and most likely to win the game but Chinnor thought They had won it in the dying minutes when their big CB headed home but was eventually cancelled out for offside by the Referee after talking to the linesman.
90 mins 1-1 and extra time
Andrew Symonds sent a long kick over the defence and Matt Hatt beat both defender and onrushing Keeper to the ball to neatly hit it low into the far comer of the goal.
2-1 to the Rrrrsss and the loud home support retreated to the decking to stand and watch from distance or have another beer.
Alex Hockley came on shortly after for Ben and soon played a good cross field ball over the top of the defence to Dan who had made a good run out wide. There was still time for Chinnor to have 1 last chance with all 11 players up for a corner in 1 minute added time (which actually the Referee played 3) but the ball was cleared long after a bit of a scramble.
Full time 1-2 to Rangers AET and possibly a big Premier team in next round.
