cobras set the standandard for rest of season
Cobras made the long trip down to Chester on Sunday to take on a much bigger team, Chester Gladiators. 2 previous meetings have left cobras deflated, suffering 2 heavy defeats there.With 6 cry-offs it forced cobras to give 2 players there debut, and what a debut they had, both players, curtis holcroft and Brad Tetlow were in the thick of the action from the start. The game started and it was a good start from cobras, defending wellin all positions, 15 minutes had gone by and there was still no score. quick hands from Chester, fed the ball down the line cathing cobras out with the overlap and scoring the first try. The conversion was given by the ref but it was clearly missed. After protest from parents on both teams, the ref had no choice to change his decision, with Chester now only 4 points in-front. Cobras got the grit between there teeth nd dug in. The outstanding Calum Dawson, lead the charge followed by Cobras forwards Josh Wheelhouse, Brad Partington and curtis holcroft putting the Chester forwards in there place. Calum Dawson sneaked through from close range to score Cobras first try and convert to edge cobras in-front. Half time came and cobras knew they were still in the game. Chester managed to get a couple of trys, but cobras didn't give in. Adam Leonard standing in for the unwell James McDaid at scrum halfwas all over the pitch. Utility player Tom Howcroft was asked to play in different positions and didn't let anyone down. With cobras putting pressure on Chesters defence meant it had to cave in and Calum Dawson scoring 2 more trys. A penalty to cobras lead to loose forward Reece Cumiskey taking a quick tap catching the Chester defence still aruing with themselves and ran through there defence, running 70 meters before just getting tackled before the line, quick play the ball and Calum Dawson darted over to get his 4th try of the game. Cobras were at this point, starting to get a decent lead when just to rub salt in the wounds centre Chad Rush ended a great move to score in the corner. Chester getting a consolation try at the final whistle, but they couldn't stop Cobras getting a deverved win, with the score being 26-20 to Rochdale Cobras and the odds were stacked against the Cobras. Man of the match went to Brad Partington, Coach's award went to the debutants curtis holcroft and Brad Tetlow.
