Mayfield kick started the first home game of the season with a comfotable 28-12 home win against a big Latchford Albion side. With an almost fully fit squad to choose from coach Chris Hilton kept faith with the majority of the side that came a very close second in the league last year and saw that faith rewarded with some solid rugby. The home side were at it from the off, Kyle Hilton and Jordan Strand making good yards for Sam Kershaw to power through the home defence to score, also adding the extras.More pressure from the kick off saw Corey Watts and Dean Stanton find Leon Ellis to score again, Pat Howard adding the two points.More positive play from Adam Mullaney and Ryan kershaw gave the home side another try before Latchford got one back just before the break. Second half saw Mayfield fast out of the blocks, billy buckley and Linden Clayton paving the way for Sam Kershaw to go in again. Latchford had a good go back but the home sides defence held strong. Debutant Jack Jackson made some good yards giving Jack Kenyon the chance to dance round the visiting defence before getting caught on the 22, but quick thinking saw him give a lovely offload to Leon Ellis to score again. Latchford scored points at the death but a comfortable home win saw Mayfield start the home season in style.
