Are you thinking about playing with Rocky Gorge Rugby? It's probably a good idea. Not only are we one of the top rugby clubs in the area but we are a proven National Champion with two championships in the last 3 years.
Rocky Gorge has two sides playing in Division I and III in the Capital Rugby Union of the Mid-Atlantic Conference. The Division I side is entering their first year in the division since being promoted from DII.
A little recent history. The DII side was undefeated in the Fall of 2010 and made it to the 2011 National Sweet 16. In 2012, we again went undefeated and were the USA Rugby DII Club National Champions. 2013 proved to be another great year ending up finishing in the Elite 8 in the country. Rocky Gorge returned to the DII National Championship once again in 2014 and defeated Tempe for their second title.
In the 2014-2015 campaign, Rocky Gorge was undefeated once more and won the MAC Championship again. The National Playoff ended prematurely in the Elite 8, but with winning the MAC, Gorge earned a promotion to Division I.
We are located conveniently in Laurel/Columbia, MD just off both 95 and 295 in-between Baltimore and DC. From Baltimore city, it only take 20 min to get to training. From DC, it take about 30 minutes. We have players from all over the area that drive up to an hour to play with the Gorge.
We are always looking for players with experience and that have played at a high level either playing rugby or another sport to join our team. We are always looking to get better and both side of the team are always competitive.
Of course, if you do not have experience or you are just looking to play some rugby then our Division III is a great place to play. It is a perfect place to learn, have fun and get better. This is where you prove yourself to get onto the Division I side or if you have no aspiration to play on the DI side, it is a great place to play some fun rugby.
