Extended Family and Gentlemen of Rocky Gorge,
Three short years ago, I accepted the nomination as President of our Rocky Gorge RugbyFootball Club. Inherited in the action was a transient team that had completed five of six consecutive losing seasons within the Mid Atlantic Rugby Football Union, Division II South.
Over the past three years we have built a club that gives back to the community with civil service projects (painting & roofing in Maryland City Park), hosts a summer sevens tournament with 30+clubs participating (Slug 7s), organizes one of the longest running single day college tournaments
(Gorge Cup), and has now advanced to the National Division II Semi-Final match (Glendale, Colorado on June 2nd).
All of these accomplishments have been achieved with the attitude of being inclusive – not exclusive. We have built strong relationships with the Maryland City Recreation Council, Anne Arundel Recreation and Parks, and the Howard County Recreation and Parks. Our corporate sponsors have outfitted our teams with two new sets of uniforms. The GODS (Gorge Old Dudes) have generously contributed funds for rugby goal posts on our dedicated home pitch. We all donated to remember the family of Peter Dent, our fallen brother.
These developing relationships have been shadowed by the competitive achievements of the club; Tournament Championships (Savannah St. Patrick’s & Atlantic Cup), consecutive undefeated seasons within our division (2010 & 2011), a MARFU 7s championship (2011), and the 2012 MARFU Division II Championship. We have built a coaching staff and team of champions.
The current edition of Rocky Gorge Rugby travels to Glendale, Colorado on May 31st to June 4th and we are seeking 100 individual contributions of $200 each. No more and no less. Are you 1 of 100?
Tracy Allen Hall
President, Rocky Gorge Rugby Football Club
