Alton Match Report

Mud, mud glorious mud!

Romsey Wasps under 9s travelled and gave Alton a tough battle on a boggy pitch. The home side took both matches, but both games saw Wasps attack with flair and defend fiercely. Liam Palmerino skippered the side in match one, with Kyle McGhee and Nathan carey stepping up into the side. It was 0-0 at half time, although Wasps were held up over the line. Alton sneaked ahead with a good try despite the great defending of Jake Rowland. In the last minutes Alton scored again and then Wasps, trying to attack from their own line dropped a pass allowing the home side to win 4-0.

Match two was a different affair with Alex Mills charging forwards and Jack Rymer steamrollering all in his path. Mills scored two tries, and Luke Taylor Blake finished off another of Rymer's rampages to make it 3-3 with only moments to go. Captain Ross Kirkwood and Scrum half Ben Cole both went close to scoring, while Max Vennik tackled Alton almost to a standstill. Joe Madigan made lots of metres carrying the ball and debutant Brandon Biddle ran powerfully. A late score saw Alton take the game. Coach Simon Cole said ; 'The boys played great rugby in very muddy conditions. They ran the ball well, and Alex Mills was voted Player of the Day after a simply outstanding performance.'
