New Milton Match report
Wasps squad show good form at New Milton
Romsey Wasps Under 9s came off best after a series of games at New Milton on Sunday.
Romsey stormed out of the blocks to win the opening encounter 8 tries to nil. Ben Cole drew his man to pass to Ross Kirkwood, after which Romsey were at their best with tries for Jack Rymer, Luke Taylor Blake and a lovely score by Nial Whitehorn. Alex Mills ran powerfully to touch down. Meanwhile the Romsey Barbarians side were captained by Joe Madigan; they mauled strongly with Brandon Biddle leading the charge in an impressive display. Liam Palmerino scored a wonderful try, going half the length of the pitch to touch down with most of the New Milton defence hanging onto him. Max Vennik tackled all that came his way, and Nathan Carey was stopped only inches short of scoring as the Barabarians went down 3-2.
In the next game Thomas Croft Baker produced an outstanding piece of skill to dispossess the home sides winger, before running the ball back for a try. Romsey achieved a two all draw, with Jake Rowland showing how to clear out ball at the ruck. The Barbarians side really gelled and managed to also draw their next match. Coach Simon Cole said; 'In very wet conditions the boys played great rugby, scoring some fine tries and defending well as a team. We will look to keep this sort of form going as we play Totton away next week.'
