Our Award winners!

At our annual presentation day the following received Awards....

Players Player of the Year - Mighty Max Vennik

Coaches Most Improved Player - Jack Rymer

Emma Taylor Blake received flowers from the Club and the parents of Under 9s players as she steps down from being manager.

Simon & Ben Cole were presented with shirts by the club, and framed pictures by the parents to wish them well on their move to Leicester.

The overall award for Minis Player of the Year, from all 250 players in all the age groups from under 7 to under 12, was won by Alex Mills! Well done Alex!

Clint Jenden will be Head Coach next year, whilst Nicola Madigan will be team manager; thank you both for volunteering.

Here is the nomination that the Committee considered for Alex's Award.
The Coaches of the Under 9s would like to nominate Alex Mills as the Minis Player of the Year. He will not be our coaches most improved player nominee for the simple reason that he isn't the most improved, he is however, our best player (and there is stiff competition for that role).

Alex is a key player who is consistently good at running with the ball, tackling, wrestling the opposition and has shown year on year growth, plus potential for greater things in the future. He has been with Wasps since year one of the Under 7s; he is one of our own products.

Alex has scored 50% of the tries that we have amassed this year. He runs powerfully and is not afraid to pass. He usually plays at inside centre but his mauling is just fantastic; it is common to see him emerge from any melee with the ball and a couple of players hanging from him!

To be candid last season Alex could be a bit boisterous on occasion; this year he has shown a new maturity, really commits in training and we have asked him to Captain the side at Tournaments - he is the natural leader of our group. The transition to contact has been interesting, and not without its bumps and bruises; Alex has been fearless throughout in his commitment - he has taken a number of knocks because he will always track back and try and make that extra try saving tackle.

At the County Championships, where we lost the Plate Final, we would advisedly describe his performance as absolutely heroic - he ran his socks off and led the team from the front, turning early defeats into consecutive wins against Fareham Heathens, Vectis and Petersfield . He took his turn as a sub without complaint and then came on in the Quarter final to score the last minute winning try that got us into the semis. As he trotted on you could see the whole team lift and think 'we can do this'.

Alex is a credit to the Club, plays his rugby hard but fair, and is a strong nominee for the Mini of the Year Award in the view of all the Coaches of the Under 9s. We hope that the Committee feel able to consider him for that Award.
