The
Kidderminster Harriers winger, who
transferred from
Romulus at the end of January, has impressed at Aggborough and received his
international call-up for the squad travelling to Russia in June.
The C side is made up of players from non-league football under the age of 23 at the start of a two year campaign, with Johnson lined up to play in the International Challenge Trophy.
The Three Lions call came just four months after stepping up three levels, and a matter of hours after Johnson was awarded Romulus’ ‘Player of the Season’ gong at the club’s annual presentation dinner.
Boss
Richard Evans said that Johnson had deserved the award and his full time move for his “hard work and dedication”, and added that he should be an inspiration to the Roms’ younger players, sentiments echoed in a speech by coach
Dave Barnett.
Johnson’s agent
Gino Culbertson added: “I have never had any doubt in Marvin’s ability and potential and it was just a matter of time for him to be recognised as a very talented player who will go on to play at a very high level.
“This latest honour in being picked for the England C squad just highlights how far he has come in only four months.
“He did fantastically well on his extended trial at Burnley and has won many admirers for his attitude and style of play.”
Other awards on the night saw the ‘Clubman of the Year’ jointly awarded to
Secretary Peter Lowe and Treasurer Peter Morgan, and there were celebrations for Graham Morris’ Under 21 side
who won the inaugural Midland Combination Under 21 league title and play-off.
