The home side made the breakthrough on 25 minutes after an balanced opening: Ashley Jackson's low cross from the left just evaded Gavin Day, but Johnson was on hand to slip his marker and shoot across Andy Richmond into the top corner of the net.

It took Romulus just three minutes to double their advantage with Jackson's powerful low shot from the left parried by Richmond, and Johnson was again in the right place to smash home the rebound.

After the break, Belper worked hard to get back into the game and halved the defecit on the hour- Matt Plant was allowed a free header from a corner which he converted from eight yards out.

The visitors saw plenty of the ball in the closing stages but created few clearcut openings- the closest they came to a leveller was ten minutes from time, but Romulus' Dean Baker hacked the ball clear through a mass of bodies to secure victory.

ROMS: Jay, Ro Evans, Paskin, Baker, Edwards, Dyer (Powis 74), Walker, Day, Brown, Johnson (Ri Evans 88), Jackson.
