I don't want to start any rumours so if the admin wish to delete my posting I understand but I have heard today that the club has now folded! Any truth? |

As admin for the website I can tell you that the only news I have officially heard so far has been posted on the website. If further details come to light I will post them as I get them |

My old fella just rang saying that's what he heard an hour ago, can't it go into admin and the supporters take over with a new club starting in the Vodkat 1? Were going to end up there anyway! |

About five years ago the Supporters Association looked at taking over the club. I spoke to Andrew Connolly who was willing to sell it to us along with the bar. He wanted £800000. We contacted Supporters Direct, a Government body who help clubs to take over ailing clubs and new ones ie FC United, FC wimbledon. They were not willing to help us because we could not sustain such a large loan with the facilities and support we had. This said if we started again we would not need such a large amount. I am willing to give it a go again if we get the support I and others would need. |

He'd be lucky to get £800 at the moment, sounds like its riddled with debt. I'm willing to help David, PM me if you need anything (other than a chequebook!) Do I dare ask if we will even be allowed to try get a team out for Saturday? |

Apparently it is on your Twitter - i can't find anything neither. It's a shame if it's true, always liked going to Rossendale when you was in our league.... The journey was a pain though! |

I'm sure that most supporters would do anything they could to keep the club alive, but the situation the club finds itself in is beyond the help of the supporters. Local people with previous experience of running a football club are needed if there is to be any chance of saving the club. As for a team on Saturday, this has been done before. Remember Marine 1978. We lost 14-2 after throwing a team together overnight. |

As a member of the volunteer 'board' that resigned before Christmas this current situation became inevitable because of a number of failings. We asked Andrew to put the club into admin some time ago but he was unwilling to do that. For some time the income was outstripped by expenditure, old debts and old commitments that the club carries. This is like a ball and chain to the efficient running of the club. No matter how much selling of ground boards, programme adverts, sponsorships, supporters through the gate and the free services supplied by lots of people it was not working. It is a economic fact of life that if the financial equation is not right then nothing will work long term without help. Unfortunately no pump priming money was forthcoming, this meant it was not only impossible to build for the future but impossible to continue from day to day. I hope that Rossendale United survives it will be sad if this is the end of the road. [Post Edited Wednesday 23rd of February 2011 09:56 PM] [Post Edited Thursday 24th of February 2011 06:56 AM] |
