Match report from the blues win

Not the greatest days of weather if your a long ball merchant, which luckily the blues aren't. The wind was blowing and the long balls were off the cards today.

Rosso came into the away game against Nostell Miners Welfare in the hope of adding to our 3 game unbeaten run after Tuesday nights 11-2 thrashing of Denaby United in the Sheffield Senior Cup 2nd round. With hat tricks for both Declan Howe and Lee Holmes.

Rossington rode their luck for the initial first 10 minutes and Nostell had good chances on goal. 2 mins in and Nostell should have scored from a free header in the box but the ball flew over Callum Fielding's bar. Another chance on goal from Nostell and Callum Fielding made a great save with his legs. Rosso began to settle and Callum Wiffen began to whip cross after cross into the Nostell area and Jordan Turner was just shy of making connection with one to make it 1-0 and put the other just over the bar. The Nostell keeper fluffed his lines coming out his box and Jordan Turner took the ball from him and shot from 35 yards but put it wide. The nerves were going and the blues were starting to win some of their battles when Nostell struck on the 40th minute. After cutting in from the left and then curling the ball into Callum Fieldings top right to make it 1-0 to Nostell.

Half time and Ryan Hindley summoned his inner Phil Brown and had the Rosso players out on the pitch for their team talk.
The team talk had worked its magic and Rosso came out as a different team for the 2nd half. The back four looking solid, middle three winning their battles and the front three looking to threaten the Nostell goal at every chance.
Billam came out of defence down the left wing and floated the ball to Declan Howe near the Nostell back post. Smashed his shot against a defender and the ball deflected home to level the game 1-1. Lee Holmes tested the Nostell keeper after his curling shot was pulled out of the top right corner and saved. The blues kept applying the pressure and the winning goal came in the 86th minute from Lee Holmes. Corned whipped in and a scramble in the Nostell box and Lee Holmes nodded the ball home from a few yards to put the blues 2-1 up. Chaos ate the game up for a few minutes at the Nostell players thought it was handball but the referee gave the goal and Rosso played out the last few minutes for a deserved win.
