Main 'Ammered away at Yorkshire Ams
The main continue in their poor run of results in a 5-2 loss in Leeds.
The main started well, with the ball and Lee Holmes forced two saves from the Ammers ‘Keeper. But it was the home side that took the lead when a shot from distance was saved by Appleby but the Ammers striker reacted first to finish the rebound (1-0, 17mins)
With the main pressing to get back into the game, Jason stokes saw his effort go just wide. The home team countered from a main attack, their wide man dribbled freely through the centre before rolling in the striker. His initial effort was saved by Appleby’s feet, but he was able to get hold of the rebound and fire into the open goal (2-0, 28mins)
The main looked to have fought their way back into it, Stokes was released down the right and put in a near post cross. Zeph Thomas got in front of his marker to dive and poke it in (2-1, 32mins)
As has been the case recently, it was a long ball that ended up as a goal against the main. This time a long ball straight down the middle beat everybody and put the striker in to make it 3-1 on 42 mins.
The score did not result the balance of play, but as the main have found out of late, it’s the making and taking of chances the counts!
HALF TIME Yorkshire Amateurs 3 -1 Rossington Main
The injured Will Rowley was replaced by teenager Dan Sanderson at Half time. And quickly after the restart Yorkshire Amateurs increased the gap to three goals. When a player was allowed to turn on the edge of the box before finishing smartly left footed across goal (4-1, 47mins).
The main once again had the majority of the possession, but the home side gave them problems via counter attacks and their quick centre forward. Jason Stokes won the main a penalty which was dispatched with confidence by Zeph Thomas for his seventh goal of the season (4-2, 67mins)
The main looked inspired as they pressed on. During a goal mouth scramble, two efforts were somehow kept off the line by defenders. And then minutes later their goalkeeper made a superb string of saves to keep the deficit at two goals.
Once again Yorkshire Amateurs pounced to make the most of some sloppy defending and poor shape. As their midfielder waltzed through to play in the goal scorer to make it 5-1 on 78mins.
This was the mains first away defeat of the league season. They will need to work hard to get things right on Saturday against Louth.
