We have found that keeping chickens complements the farm well. Redundant farm buildings have been converted to house the hens, crops grown on the farm make up part of the feed, and the manure they produce will be a useful fertiliser for the fields.
The hens are able to range on ample grass land where they are able to exhibit their natural behaviour scratching and scavenging out on the range. There are shelters out on the grass fields to encourage the hens to range further and currently we are planting trees to form natural shelters.
We feed our hens on a wholesome, natural, vegetarian diet, with no added antibiotics or hormones. The feed is made freshly on the farm by a mobile mill and we make it to the highest possible standard to make sure that we have thriving hens.
Our feed is made from just 5 ingredients, wheat, soya, limestone, soya oil and minerals. All the wheat is home grown on our farm and makes up approximately 65% of the ration.
We are members of the LION code and RSPCA Freedom Foods quality assurance schemes so that customers can be sure of our high standards of animal welfare.
