With one victory apiece in the league, there was nothing to choose between the teams ahead of this cup fixture.

With a fine victory against Caithness in the previous round, Stornoway's confidence must have been high, especially since we hadn't had a competitive game since November.

But the Cup seems to bring out the best in this team and the pre-match coaching from Mike Gordon and Lee McLellan, and Andy Mackay's team talk got them suitably fired up.

Our two flankers - Rowan Myers and Logan Sinclair - were in the thick of it right from the start and within twelve minutes Logan had touched down under the posts to give Gabe Dobson an easy conversion. 7-0 to Ross

8 minutes later and Logan was in again, this time scoring in the corner. 12-0 to Ross. This stung Stornoway into action and two tries in a 3 minute spell - including one from their centre off a terrific side-step that left our midfield stranded - brought it back to 12-12.

With half time fast approaching Logan helped himself to a third try which Gabe converted to close the half at 19-12 to Ross.

All through the first half Rowan Myers was playing a blinder - stealing lineouts and ripping balls in the tackle to set up attacks and five minutes into the second half he crashed over for a try of his own.

The next 15 minutes saw both teams struggle to dominate; both sets of forwards fighting hard for each other and both defences putting in the tackles that mattered. But after more fine play from Rowan the ball was quickly passed out the line for Alexander Kennard to score in the corner - his first for the team! 5 minutes later Stornoway scored again to make it 29-17 but in the final minute, with Stornoway players berating the ref for failing to spot knock-on, Logan took advantage of the situation to score his fourth of the game.

Final score Ross Sutherland 34 -17 Stornoway.
