Read on for details of this FREE coach development programme being offered via sportscotland

What does Coach Connect involve?[/b[b]]
• The programme is workshop based and there are a number of different sessions that a coach can attend over the course of a year.
• Workshops will generally last around 3 hours and can run on weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• There is no minimum number of sessions that a coach should attend, however, we would ask that coaches sign up for sessions that they know they will be able to attend.

Why should a coach register for the programme?
• To complement and assist in the further development of their current coaching knowledge and application.
• Cope positively with change by constantly updating their skillset as a coach.
• Build further confidence and credibility in their coaching.
• Learn from some of the best coaches, scientists and sports people in the industry.
• Provide better support to players and athletes.
• It’s free!

If you are interested or you know of someone who the programme would benefit, in the first instance contact Darren Reid at Highlife Highland:

Also below is a description of a couple of the new courses that will be offered to coaches signed up to the programme.

Workshop Title: The Role of Physical Competence in Athlete Development (3 hours)
By the end of this workshop, a coach will be able to:
• Recognise and understand what foundation movements are and the value they have within their sport.
• Understand the impact of foundation movement on ‘long-term’ athlete development and injury reduction.
• Understand how foundation movements can be taught, identified and developed.
• Explore how these movements can be introduced and developed within a coach’s own sessions.

Workshop Title: Understanding Talent (3 hours)
This workshop supports coaches to develop a better understanding of talent to enhance them and their athlete’s success. Talent is a complex and emotive area and we have found that people have not really thought much about where talent comes from. The workshop will cover what a coach needs to know to help maximise the potential of their athletes.
By the end of this workshop, a coach will be able to:
• Understand the key aspects and implications of physical suitability.
• Understand what is meant by the development process and how to implement this in a coaching role.
• Understand how beliefs shape performance and what this looks like in practice.
• Gain knowledge of tools and support to apply in a coaching role.
