RBS Caledonia Regional Leagues - Caledonia League Division 2 North
| Ross Sutherland | 19 | vs | 20 | Aberdeen Uni Medics |
Bitter pill to swallow courtesy of the Medics
Ross Stags hosted Aberdeen Uni Medics, at the weekend in the RBS Caledonian North Div 2 fixture.
The game started as a tense affair with neither team conceding much ground for the first ¼, then on the 20 min mark, returning ex capt, David Kennedy broke that stalemate and put the home side up 5-0, unfortunately this was not converted by Neil Cook, who for the third week has found himself with the duties as kicker.
7 mins later and the Medics went over the line (unconverted also) 5-5.
39 mins and Gareth Braddick with a great score, converted by Cook meant the stags finished the first half 12-5 up and looking comfy.
Out of the blocks and on 45 mins the stags 10 went over and again this was converted by Cook, 19-5. At this point the door should have been closed and careful, controlled possession should have been the order, but finding themselves rarely this season in the ascendance meant that Ross wanted to continue playing the open game they were enjoying.
On 68 mins the Ross defence slipped which allowed Medics to score and injected a bit of belief into the visitors 19-10. A few minutes later and those fears were realised when a well converted try put the score at a nail biting 19-17. The pressure really built and Ross were pinned in their 22m area, the chance to get clean ball for clearing kick was seen by the ref as illegally gained in the ruck and a penalty was awarded to the students, this was taken well and with a minute remaining score 19-20. This is how it ended.
Another defeat for the Invergordon side but a much improved performance than in recent weeks, “bitter disappointment, but much to take from the game and with the promise of a few more experienced guys being regularly available over the next couple of weeks, we are all looking forward to some long awaited wins” said Coach Rob Parkes
Noticeable performances from David and Murray Kennedy, Ken Mackenzie and Euan Sinclair, showed promise for this being the turning point in the season for the Stags?
