On a day when the stakes were high and the confidence levels were even higher due to the anticipation of the new season, no one really expected the game to come to an end in such a short and convincing manner in favour of Rostherne Cricket.
With the new skipper Steve Crome at the helm, it was important for the team to make in roads to a very good Styal team lead by skipper Steve Vose, and so they did with some impressive bowling from messrs Rowland, Britton and Crome.
The game began with Styal being given the opportunity to bat first, which they duly took advantage of in the form of Vose with a quick fire 39, unfortunately the same couldnt be said for the rest of the team who managed to contribute a further 48 runs before they were bowled out for 87. Wickets for Rostherne came from Captain Steve Crome (4) Tony Rowland (3) and Vice Skipper Pete Britton (3)
At this time, well last season at least the usual would be and "Rostherne were bowled out for 45 or less!!", but not this time, Rostherne came out of the traps with fire in their bellies and knocked off the 88 runs required with more than 30 overs to spare for the loss of just 2 wickets.
An excellent way to start the season and what was more amazing is that they did it with 10 men, due to a late cry off. Congratulations fellas and good luck for next week at home to The Groves.
