U12 Girls at Yorkshire Mini Hockey Championship

by Mick Davis

Following their success in the South Yorkshire round of the Mini Hockey Championship, the U12 Girls progressed to the Yorkshire round, held at Weetwood.

The girls lined up in Pool B against Driffield, Thirsk and Huddersfield.

We lost the first game against Driffield 2-1, but the score didn't reflect the game. We attacked for much of the match but the Driffield goalkeeper was in great form.

We were straight back on the pitch against Thirsk and came off losing 5-1. There were a lot of tired legs towards the end of this game.

However, after a rest and a drink, we were ready to face Huddersfield and we played much better. We lost 2-1, but had the better chances and on another day, might have won the game.

Girls - Ben and I discussed the games in the car going home and both of us said how proud we were of all of you. In spells, you played some good hockey agaist good opposition but whatever the score, or how tired you were, you never gave up.

My thanks go to the Rotherham U12 Girls Parent Choir who provided great support throughout.

Mick
