Back on home turf and feeling good about the performance ahead Rotherham ladies 1st XI started strongly with excellent attacking play leading to early chances, Hannah Philips and Kodie Grand came close on numerous occasions but were unfortunate not to score. However, against the run of play Roseberry counter attacked and took a fortunate lead within the first 5 minutes.
On home turf and knowing they were the stronger side Rotherham continued to press, excellent play came through Sam and Rachel Hale and Jo Butt in midfield, resulting in a string of penalty corners being awarded in the hosts favour. Captain Kayleigh Dunwell
capitalised with a fierce straight shot to put Rotherham back on level terms. Rotherham continued to work hard and good pressure in the D from Emma Hughes, Dunwell and Philips led to Grand slotting home at close range, she won the ball 2 meters from the line rolled out beating two defenders and putting the ball past the keeper to give Rotherham the lead.
Half time score stood at 2-1 to Rotherham.
The home-side started the second half brightly and won a penalty corner in the first few minutes. A slick one-two between Hughes and Dunwell led to Hughes converting Rotherham’s third goal, 3-1. Rotherham took the foot off the pedal and allowed Roseberry back into the game a little and good defending from Julie Rayner

were not enough to keep Roseberry out, they continued to press and reduced the deficit to 3-2. Rotherham again displayed some good, quick attacking moves but failed to find a fourth goal, they hung on for a deserved 3-2 victory.
