Bray Senior Hatrick Keeps Men's 3's safe!

by Mark Cuff

RHC Men's 3's hosted local rivals Sheffield Hallam 6's in their last home fixture of the season. 3 points would guarantee the 3rd team safety in Division 4.

The game started well, with Rotherham taking control of the game. The back four J Bray, S Forrest, O Deroeck and T Roe keeping the sheffield attack at bay. The forwards A Bray, C Andrews, J Hartley and D Brereton created many chances, though converting these was initially elusive.

Rotherham, mid way in the 1st half were awarded a short corner. J Bray opened up the goal account, clinically lifting the ball into the net. Rotherham then appeared to loose concentration which saw the visitors grab 2 quick goals in reply and Rotherham found themselves 1-2 down at half time.

Straight from the restart Rotherham were back on level terms when J Bray crossed the ball from inside the D, some defensive confusion saw an error and the ball crossed the line for Brays 2nd goal.

This was the lift that Rotherham needed and soon they were back in control with the scores once again level. Some excellent running by M Lindley and J Hartley created space and wore the vistors down. More and more chances being created and it was only a matter of time before C Andrews opened his account for the day and firmly shot the ball past the sheffield keeper. 3-2.

Rotherham then dominated the remainder of the game. Hard work by the midfield M Cuff, M Green and M Lindley supplied the forwards with plenty of ball and the rewards were reaped when C Andrews picked up his 2nd goal of day.

The next goal that followed can only be described as sublime! J Bray showed everyone his experience and skill, picking up the ball and skillfully dribbling past most of the sheffield midfield, defence and cooly flicking the ball into the back of the net, 5-2 to rotherham.

The Mens 3's have a few weeks off before they travel away to Ben Rhydding on the 15th april for their last game of the season, knowing full well that they can not be relegated from division 4.
