The Young and the Old
Men's 4ths go One Step Beyond Hull Uni
Report from Lee Dodge
The 4th team faced Hull University with a great mix of experience and youth.
Combining the youth of players such as Ed Donaldson and Alex Hollingworth with experience of Mike Green and James Swinscoe, Rotherham proved to be too strong for the energetic students and narrowly won 3-2.
Rotherham took the game to the visitors and soon found themselves 1-0 up as Ed Donaldson drifted past a Hull defender with ease and slotted the ball into the corner of the goal.
However the lead was short lived as Hull Uni came back hard to grab 2 goals in 5 minutes to give them the lead.
Despite being the better side, Rotherham were forced to work hard for the equaliser but eventually got it. Some great link up play from Green and Lee Dodge allowed Dodge to find the great run of Donaldson who powered the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal to level the scores going into the break.
In the second half, Rotherham changed the tactics and exploited Hulls weaker players out wide instead of forcing it down the middle and deservedly grabbed the goal that secured all 3 points with 5 minutes to go, Lee Dodge finishing Ed Donaldson's cross from close range.
Rotherham can go away knowing that there are still little things to work on but there is already plenty there to work with and 3 home points are safely in the bag
