Rotherham remain unbeaten
3 games in; 2 Win & 1 draw, 30 GF & 12 GA
Saturday 7th October, Doncaster V's Rotherham:
After scoring 24 goals from 2 wins, Rotherham travelled to Doncaster with a sense of assurance in their attacking abilities. With Ibbotson and Baylis being unavailable and Siddle taking a tumble in the warm up it was all change at the back.
The early stages of the game were very tight with both sides having their share of possession and neither creating much in the final quarter. It was Rotherham who broke the dead lock, and their goal 15 minutes in was soon doubled with a brace from Jack Hartley. Even with the lead Rotherham were far from comfortable, finding themselves overrun in midfield on a number of occasions and Doncaster were soon back in the game. Rotherham took the lead again but Doncaster soon equalised. This happened another 2 times but then with the score line 5-5 Rotherham began taking a more controlling role in the game and were unlucky off a series of penalty corners. Then, with 10 minutes to go they took the lead once again, after which the message was to retain possession and don't do anything silly. For 10 minutes Rotherham held the ball and frustrated Doncaster, but with seconds on the clock Doncaster broke through on goal and were awarded a penalty corner, which they converted to rescue themselves a point.
A disappointing performance for Rotherham on their first trip away from home this season. Despite never going behind it felt that at times they were chasing the game and for the second time this season sloppy defensive mistakes gifted the opposition goals. The big positive being their presence and effectiveness in-front of goal once again, with in form forward Hartley netting his third hat trick in as many games.
Scorers: Jack Hartley 3, James Thomas 1, Mathew Webb 1, Luke Bridger 1
