The Roundhegians Under 11's squad are a group of about 25 players the core of whom have trained and played together since Under 6's. Having said that, we have been very fortunate over the last three or four years to gain some really good new players who have instantly fitted in and become a firm part of the group.
Under 11's Rugby is played to the RFU rules. It is a fast paced game of a maximum of 9 a side with rolling substitutions, where good handling and quick rucks are vitally important. This season, the major changes from Under 10's is the ability to kick from hand (not that we really want them too), and kicking restarts . There are three per side allowed in the ruck this season, including the tackler or ball carrier, and scrums whilst still a pushing free zone do include a competitive strike for the ball. The games are still as per RFU guidance non-competitive, that is you don't keep score, but you trying telling the kids that!
We play fixtures against other (mostly) local teams, home and away on Sunday mornings from September to April and we train on Sunday mornings at 10 am at the Memorial Ground (home) . This season we are introducing ad hoc Friday evening sessions, 19.00-20.00 to allow us more time to train in preparation to a very full fixture list. The bar is open too.
Our season traditionally closes with three day tour, to a tournament with caravan site based accommodation. The last three have been highly successful with lots of Rugby and other activities built in, with parents and players all joining in the general fun. We think we are going 'International' in 2019.... well, maybe Wales, but discussions are in their early stages.
We have three Coaches led by Jim Naylor, ex Newcastle Falcon and Leicester player, all of whom are DBS checked and have been through RFU courses.
If you want to know more about us give us a call / email and we would welcome you down to the ground for a run about and meet a very hospitable group of players, parents and coaches . The bacon rolls are good too.
