Happy Hegians New Year

Yarnbury 17 - Hegians 43

After being pipped in a close encounter by the hosts before Christmas, Hegians arrived in Horsforth in a determined mood after the match was switched at the last minute with the Hegians pitches frozen. Cameron who had a barnstorming display, opened the scoring on 8 minutes, crashing through the home defence for his first ever Hegians try after a break down the left flank by Robbie and great backing up from captain Conor. The hosts hit back on there first foray in to Hegians territory, with stand off Alistair putting up a cross field kick which was gathered by the Yarnbury winger to score. Hegians soon hit back and after good drives from Tom W & Conor, Will fed Adam who scored a good try after his trademark dummy split the Home defence. Hegians scored a beauty on the stroke of half time with crisp handling from the backs creating space for Joe who made a terrific break and fed Ewan with a great ball off the deck for Ewan to sprint clear to score. Half time Yarnbury 5 - Hegians 19.

The 2nd half followed much the same pattern. The Hegians backs attacked repeatedly from depth, and Ewan increased the score after a fine break down the left from Tom W, ably supported by Conor who fed Ewan to score. Hegians turned over Yarnbury possession with a big tackle from Archie, Cameron drove the ball upfield enabled Adam & Will to feed Ewan who crossed for a well deserved hat trick. Joe also crossed shortly after to cap a fine performance. The hosts kept working and stand off Alistair kept Hegians full back Ben alert with his varied kicking game. Thankfully Ben fielded the tricky kicks safely and was able to make good ground counter attacking. Hegians saved the best try until last and after Xander & Luke had both been held up inches from the whitewash, the ball was fed down the line and Xander found Seb with an outrageous pass to score. Jack W slotted 4 good conversions. Credit to the hosts who scored a good late try through there powerhouse George, and also scored with the final play of the game.

Thanks to all at Yarnbury for allowing the game to go ahead at such short notice.

Training at the Street Lane Gym 6:30 - 7:30, Wednesday. Hopefully everyone has recovered from last week's session now!!!!
