Hegians stall "Green Machine"
By Jim Malia
Hegians made the trip in to the dales in hope rather than expectation with a couple of important regulars missing and having come of 2nd best to Wharfedale only a couple of weeks earlier. However the crowd was treated to a feast of fast flowing rugby on the 1st team pitch at Threshfield to set up Hegians for the Bowl final next week v local rivals Moortown. The Hegians pack again set the tone for the day tearing in to the Dalesmen and setting up good ball for the backs to run at the Home defence on the massive pitch. Hegians scored 7 good tries, Xander opened the scoring after great work from Conor, Will stretched over for the 2nd. Jacob picked up a loose pass off his bootlaces and powered over for a great score to lead 19-10 at the break.
The Home side opened the scoring in the 2nd half before a further try was finished by Will after great work from Robbie, Jack W and Tom W. Further tries were added by Tom W galloping clear from a restart, and a super brace from T who had a big game standing in at centre. Overall a great team performance and well played to all 16 lads.
Thanks to Cabbage and all at Wharfedale. Good luck in Scotland next weekend lads. Best of luck to Jack S who left the field with a nasty looking hand injury whilst pulling off a try saving tackle in the first half
Final score Wharfedale 15- Hegians 43.
