New Players Welcome

‘The Pride of Rugby’

The Rugby Lionesses 1st XV were formed in October 2010 by a group of local ladies who wanted to further develop their fitness and social network through the game of Rugby. Each of the founding members and most of the players are local to Rugby and many have a close connection to The Rugby Lions RFC who we are proud to represent as their Women’s Team.
The team has now developed well into a full squad and we are still welcoming new members regularly who have heard the call of ‘The Pride’ and want to come and be part of something new, fresh and developing.

2014/15 Season saw us enter into National Challenge (Midlands) 1 after being promoted from National Challenge (Midlands) 2. This league was a great step up for the Lionesses and challenged us in many ways – securing a position back in NC 1 for 2015/16 we have come through stronger, fitter and more determined to improve within this league and Women’s Rugby.

This last season saw us enter into the RFU Women’s Junior Vase Competition, we had a great run through to third round defeating Mellish and Old Newtonians on the way before a long trip to Liverpool and Sefton Ladies saw the journey end. But this is something we are determined to re-enter this coming season and push further, who knows we could play at Twickenham again!

For a ‘newly developed’ team we have a strong following of supporters on line with over 500 followers on our Facebook and Twitter Pages, along with those who travel to both home and away games to help us roar louder. We have regular reports in the Rugby Advertiser, and also have a dedicated section within the Rugby Football Clubs website to further promote our team’s progress; recruit and also to remind the town of Rugby that the Ladies team is as ‘good as their male counterparts’. The Lionesses development is undoubtedly down to the weekly training regime we currently have, the strong leadership and guidance under our Head Coach and team and the dedication and commitment we all show from being part of The Rugby Lionesses’.

As we look toward 2015/16 season we are already planning our season to develop further, train harder and play like the Pride we are, creating a stronger and fitter team to hopefully finish in the top 4 of NC (Midlands) 1 and who knows where the Junior Vase will take us this year!

We train Thursday evenings at Webb Ellis Road @ 7pm. For more information please contact Gemma Weddell on 07788951512.
