David Black and Kevin Birt will turn out for Staffordshire on Thursday evening in a trial match for Staffordshire against Derbyshire at Derby Rugby Club.

In an ironic twist in a season in which Rugeley's back have dominated it is two of the front row who have been asked to turn out for Staffordshire this week.

Both players will be trying to win a place in the county team proper when the County Championship begins next month.

Kevin has won full county honours before but this is the first time that David Black will be pulling on the green jersey of Staffordshire.

Supporters are invited to watch the match will take place at Derby Rugby Club and kick off at 7.30pm.

Club Chairman Carl Johnson, himself a former Staffordshire capped prop said

"Rugeley has provided props to the county for many years and I am pleased that our strength in this department of the game has been recognised. It is great that two players who play their rugby at level 10 of the game have been given this recognition. I wish David and Kevin every success and I am hopeful their performances will mean they are awarded full county honours".
