Rugeley Tame the Barbarian's

According to the dictionary the word Barbarian means “untamed, vicious, vulgar, and wild”

But this weekend on Hagley Fields Rugeley 3rd XV proved to the Barbarians that they were not at all anything like what the dictionary defined.
Although at the start of the game it looked like the visitors were going to dominate and control the game with an easy try right under the Rugeley posts within the first 5 minutes of kick off.
This seemed to unleash the hunter in Rugeley and at the 15th minute point of the game Forward Martyn Bentley scores what turns out to be the first of three try’s repeating his efforts at the 18th & 21st minutes for Rugeley.
With the help and input from old timer’s Neil Harvey’snr Mario Leone Rugeley were able to end the first half with a convincing score line of 24 – 5 to Rugeley.
The second period started with Rugeley’s combination of old and young all coming together as one formidable team.
New incomers John O’sulivan (scrum half) was instrumental for the quick movement of the ball out of the pack’s and scrums, but not to make too much of our second incomer Daniel Mayle (centre) with the support right on his left shoulder Ian Holdsworth keeping right there was the reason Mayle was so successful in the three try’s he was able to put past the very demotivated and struggling visiting team.
The home team continued to dominate the game with some great running play from Adam Grocott & Jack Richards and the leadership from the old boy Stephen Keyes as the day’s team captain there was no chance that Birmingham were ever going to be able to come back at Rugeley
With 7 minutes to go Again with the support from Bentley Jake Graham was responsible for hammering home the final nail in the casket of the barbarians and send them home no longer anything like the definitions in the dictionary in fact they went home well and truly spanked.
In all the game was a great game to watch well played and in great humour from both sides.
The wind on Hagley field was fast and furious hampering the normally precise and equally brilliant kicking from Grocott.

Final Score 41-12 To Rugeley.

This week’s Men of the Match were Martyn Bentley & Daniel Mayle together.

Next week Rugeley Host Cannock at Hagley Field, All players to meet at the Vine inn 12pm Club Shirt & Ties to be worn.
