It has been a pre-season of hard work, with a strong focus on attack. There has been a number of new faces that have joined that have really complimented the foundations that are already in place. The technical and tactical work of the coaches has also been bolstered by the addition of strength and conditioning sessions from player/coach Robin.
Our 2 pre-season fixtures gave us a great opportunity to put into practice our work in a more pressurised environment, try out new faces and also get some much-needed match fitness. Debuts for David, Ifiock, Rory, Stoney, Jules, Sam F and DJ plus notable returns for Dan, Blakie and Gilbert provides us with optimism for the 18/19 London 1 campaign. In total 34 players represented the club over 2 fixtures and with a number of faces due back in September there is a depth to the squad that hasn’t been there in previous seasons.
The games themselves, first against Ealing Trailfinders Academy and the second against London Cornish, were highly competitive and a great warm up for the season. Leading by example against Ealing, Co-Captain Danny B got the 1st try of the season after a solid lineout maul from the forwards, followed by another strong forward drive finished off by Jerry. Eddie K then opened his tryscoring account with a lovely run from the base of a ruck. Tries against London Cornish included a 60m interception from Ed H, a try in only his 2nd senior game for Iffiock, a debut try for DJ and two great individual tries from wingers Rob and Sam H.
The season proper kicks of on Saturday 1st September with both 1sts and 2nds at home. Any support is appreciated.
