RICHARD BROWN
Tremendously experienced, highly influential defender who leads by example both on and off the pitch, he returned to the club in May 2009 as player/coach after a season with Shifnal Town in a similar role. He originally transferred to Dales Lane in September 2001 from Paget Rangers, whom he had previously served for some eight years and made almost 400 appearances. Predominantly a central defender or sweeper, he began his career as a trainee with Walsall before turning professional with the Saddler’s and make 12 First Team appearances during season 1991-92. While at Bescot Stadium he had a spell with Willenhall Town and upon his release he linked up with Hednesford Town, before subsequently signing for Willenhall in January 1993. Transferred to Paget Rangers during the summer of 1993, going on to win the inaugural 1994-95 Midland Football Alliance championship and playing the next six seasons in Southern League Western Division football. Enjoyed a tremendous first campaign with Olympic, culminating in him lifting the Midland Football Alliance League Cup as skipper and being named by his colleagues as Players’ Player of the Year for season 2001-02. During season 2003-04 he enjoyed yet another extremely consistent campaign and was involved in every one of Rushall’s 59 games, something that didn’t go unmissed by Olympic fans who named him as their Supporter’s Player of the Year for season 2003-04. Season 2004-05 was the pinnacle of his Dales Lane career so far as he skippered the side to the 2004-05 Midland Football Alliance Championship and was also named by his peers as Players’ Player of the Year. The 2005-06 campaign saw him surpass his 250th full appearance for the club as well as guiding the Pic’s to a 10th place finish during their Southern Football League debut and also lifting the coveted Staffordshire Senior Challenge Cup for the first time in the clubs history after defeating Stoke City by a single goal at the Britannia Stadium. Top appearance maker during season 2005-06 and 2006-07 with now almost 350 full appearances to his credit, he was also named as Supporter’s Player of the Year for the second time for 2005-06. In his first spell with the Pics he appeared some 366 times in a Rushall shirt and scored 27 goals over 7 highly successful seasons, until summer 2008 saw him depart Dales Lane to spend a season with Shifnal Town. November 2009: Transferred to Market Drayton Town
