YOUNG PICS MAKE FINAL PREPARATIONS
The three Youth Development Sides were all in friendly action this weekend ahead of the approaching start of their competitive seasons.
The newest side to join the Pics ranks, the Under 11s, warmed up coming back from 2-0 down to record a 7-2 victory over DDC Colts. The youngest side in the Pics set up under manager Ray Day will have a longer wait to enter into competitive action than initially thought as they were single team in their division to be allocated a blank week in the opening round of fixtures in the Walsall Junior Youth League.
As a result they have organised two further friendlies this week. Rushall United are the visitors on Wednesday Evening and Holy Name Celts next Sunday at the Youth Developments training base at Elmwood School ahead of their opening fixture against FC Premier at Pleck Park on Sunday 16th September. The following week they will play at Bentley West against Beechdale Juniors. Both of these games are 9.30 kick offs but there is a later start for the final fixture of the month when the young Pics face Pelsall Villa, again at Pleck Park; but this time with a 10.45 kick off.
Apart from “beneficial experiences” the older Pics sides will be having their home games in the Midland Junior Premier League at Shelfield Playing Fields on Saturday Mornings. It is the Under 15s who will be there first being scheduled to host newcomers Dudley Town on 8th September.
The U15s will be buoyed by their 4-1 Saturday friendly victory against Paget Rangers and will be hoping that they can continue their development throughout the coming season.
The remaining fixtures for the month see visits to Mickleover Sports (15th) and Bustleholme (29th) sandwiching a home fixture against Burton Colts on 22nd. Kick offs are all schedules for 10.30 am.
The senior of the youth development sides, the Under 16s , open their season with a visit to Hinckley United which was the venue for their defeat on penalties in last seasons cup final.
After a 4-1 defeat at an impressive Wolves Casuals side the U16s have their final friendly on Tuesday evening at the home of Solihull Moors. U16s Manager Chris Allen explained, “We have been approached for this showpiece friendly on the basis of the games against the respective sides last season. Both games were good to watch and played in the right spirit both on the pitch and on the sidelines. To be approached in this way is another fantastic acknowledgement from people outside of the club of how we go about things. We will ensure that we make the most of this opportunity to represent the club in the right way and act as ambassadors for the Youth Development section.” Kick off at Damson Park will be at 7pm.
The remaining fixtures for the month provisionally put the under 16s at home against Daventry Town on 15th, Leamington on 22nd and Burton Colts on 29th.
“All the sides finished above us last season although not by much, all of the games will be a good, competitive tests and measures for the Long Term Player Development Plan we have in place.”
We wish all our Youth Development Players the very best of luck for the new season and once again express our thanks to the coaches, parents and other volunteers for their commitment to enable to Youth Development section to exist and flourish.
