Experienced player assistant-manager eyeing return to action after injury set-back...

ONE OF the major positives to come out of last weekend’s friendly on the 3G against Bolehall Swifts was seeing player-assistant manager, Nick Amos complete 45 minutes as he closes in on a return to action.

The 36 year-old, who counts the likes of Hednesford Town and Stafford Rangers amongst his former clubs and was The Pics’ Supporter’s Player of the Year in 2009/10, has been laid low with a combination of ankle and hamstring problems.

“It was a big boost to see Nick come through 45 minutes on Saturday unscathed,” said manager, Neil Kitching. “He is such an influential player for us both on and off-the-field and we have certainly missed his presence on the pitch.

“He’s got a great attitude and has worked hard to get back to fitness. We will certainly benefit from having him available for selection for the important matches that lie ahead.

“It means that we go into Saturday’s home game against Frickley Athletic with a group of 19/20 players to choose from, so it’s a nice selection headache to have.

“At the other end of the experience scale, Saturday’s friendly also saw Mitchell Botfield play his first game for the club since his loan move from Walsall. He’s a young, hungry lad who did well over the 90 minutes.”
