Prestatyn 2 - Ruthin 3
Ruthin give the fans a nervous ending!
I would like to say that Ruthin dominated this match from start to finish but in reality they dominated from start to the 87th minute.
Up until then Ruthin looked comfortable against a team that looked as if they were suffering from the effects of all the changes that have happened at Prestatyn recently. Debutant Tomos Williams opened the scoring on 25 minutes when he cut in from the left and shot under keeper Christian Wright. Ruthin played some good football, winning much of the second ball and moving the ball well. Prestatyn on the other hand tended to give the ball away making it difficult afternoon for them with Ruthin taking full advantage. The second goal came just before the break when Mathew (Prion) Evans scored with a powerful header from a corner.
The second half continued with a long range shot from Osian Davies which was heading goalbound but for a great save from Christian Pearce touched it onto the post. When Llyr Morris made it 3-0 on 72minutes, after a great long clearance from keeper Ryan Goldston, the Ruthin faithful were counting their chickens as there didn’t seem any way back for the home team.
With some Ruthin fans having already left (Bernard) confident in the three points, Prestatyn mounted their mini come back with a goal from Ian Griffiths on 87 minutes and then Matthew Griffiths took advantage of an unsettled defence two minutes later. This gave the away side a nervous few minutes before the referee’s whistle gave Ruthin a very good three points.
