The girls got off to a tricky start, away at Newmarket, before racking up several victories on the trot. Some dodgy player availability contributed to a blip in mid-November, and although we fought right to the end it was this, coupled with a couple of tight games that just went the wrong way against the eventual top two (Newmarket and Spalding), that put the kibosh on our dreams of successive promotions.
Along with our fourth place league finish, the season was also notable for our first ever entry into the EH National Vase (in which we were edged out 4-3 in an epic encounter away at Old Silihillians), and some impressive performances in other Sunday fixtures (particularly putting six past Northampton Saints u18s).
A glance at the season’s statistics (see
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/rutland/l/statistics-47330.html) reveals that Anne Pollock led the way with 22 appearances, closely followed by Katie Richardson (a fair effort given where they both live!) Pollock also topped the scoring charts with 20 goals, ahead of Ellie Ricketts, who weighed in with 10.
With the girls already talking about next season and planning their summer fitness training, it seems that a spot in the East League is firmly the target going forward. Meanwhile, I’m off to Dubai for some R & R.
Laters.
