Rutland Ladies 2nds have now been guaranteed promotion into Cambridgeshire Division 1 after finishing in second position in Division 2.
Rutland left it until the last minute to secure second place with one round of matches left to play, but deservedly secured promotion. It has been a great season with some outstanding performances from some up and coming junior girls between the ages of 13 and 15. This has led to some fantastic wins against some strong opposition such as Spalding and St Neots late in the season. The first half of the season was tough with the second team strong inside forwards, Ella Brahmachari and Charlie Gregg, deservedly getting moved to the first team. However, since Christmas the team has been unbeaten, beating several teams that they lost to in the first half of the season comprehensively. This really showed the improvement of the team throughout the season, and in particular of Lucy and Fiona Ginn who grew into their positions and played with real confidence towards the end of the season, with Fiona Ginn finishing top goal scorer for the team over the season. Molly King and Megan Wright also scored goals throughout the season and were always on hand to help the newer girls in the team.
There are some exciting plans being put in place for next season already with U14, U16 and U18 teams being entered into the England Hockey National Club competition, pre-season training and socials already being planned and the excitement of competing in a new league. There are practices and matches throughout the year so if you interested in playing hockey at any age please get in touch via the Rutland Hockey Club website.
