Another stalwart leaves us
The club is sad to announce the death of Dave Roberts aged 72, following a fall at home. He had been fighting 3 separate illnesses for some time.
A kind, intelligent and gentle man, Dave was instrumental, along with the likes of Willie McKie and the late Kevin Williamson, in setting up our Youth Section, which has served the club so well since. He went on to become a wise and steadying influence as Club Secretary, a position he held for some 8 years. Despite deteriorating health he remained international tickets secretary until very recently.
His pride in the club goes on in the shape of his son Matty, who is Club Treasurer, 2nd team Captain and U7/8s coach. During last season he was one of those who put the 1st XV shirt back on and bravely did his best in impossible circumstances - even captaining the side on occasion.
Dave's funeral will take place at Saltwell Crematorium on Friday 26th May at 1pm, followed by a gathering at the club.
Donations in lieu of flowers will be split equally between the wonderful MacMillan Cancer Support, Myeloma UK and Prostate UK.
