RUGBY coach Danny Hunter has promotion in his sights as he takes up new role at Saffron Walden Rugby Club

The 30-year-old project manager has been appointed first team coach at the club which finished fourth in the London 2 North East league last season.
Alongside Danny’s appointment the club is also looking to strengthen its senior teams with players interested in joining urged to get in touch.
Danny brings a wealth of experience to the club as both a player and coach. He began playing when he was just four and went on to play for Yorkshire schoolboys Under 18s.
His first club was Aldwinians and he also played for Hartpury College, Gloucester 7s, Moseley, Cambridge Rugby Club and Shelford Rugby Club.
The father-to-be also had a spell with El Salvador in Spain where he played European Cup Rugby.
Danny’s coaching career has included a spell as head coach at Cambridge Rugby Club’s first XV and at Comberton Village College where he helped introduce the sport and developed a successful team. He has also coached at Newmarket and Shelford.
After watching SWFRC in action and speaking to the players, Danny – a fan of the ‘head-ups’ approach to playing rugby - said he was confident that the club can push on.
“From what I have seen I believe this club is more than capable of achieving promotion and I’m very much forward to working with the players to help the team reach its full potential.”
Danny takes over from previous coach, Tom Hughes, and Senior Teams Manager Graham Marshall paid tribute to his achievements.
“Tom put a huge amount into the role over the past couple of years and we nearly secured promotion. Although he is stepping down due to family and work commitments he will continue to be involved with the club.”
The club is also keen to bring in new senior players to bolster its teams as it looks to pre-season training getting underway on Tuesday 30th June at Henham.
“Even if you’ve not played for some time or just want the odd game there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and the club is very welcoming with a great social scene,” said Graham Marshall, Senior Teams Manager
