Saffron Walden Saxons get the season off to a storming start.
A great performance that proves all the hard work pays off.
After an excellent warm up match the week before the Saxons were ready to test themselves against some tough opposition, they lost 85-0 to Cambridge last season. Quickly settling in to fast open rugby Saxons scored through centre Adam Clark with a powerful finish after 3 minutes. Cambridge responded well and scored to take the lead 5-7, the game settled into a quality contest before Walden scored four tries in 12 minutes, Cambridge responding just on the stroke of half time to make it 27-14 at half time. Cambridge had looked dangerous in attack and twice broke Walden’s defence when we lost shape. Walden then ran away in the second half with a further five unanswered tries to seal a convincing win. George Menhenick, James Gosden x 3, Matt Howe, Olly Webber x 2, Gordon Leonard and Rob Booth also scored. The mix of attacking options across the team combined with well organised defence was a clear advantage for the men in green.
