U16's open the Cup with a 50-7 win over Peterborough
8 try haul over a huge Peterborough Pack
After two cancelled matches the lads were itching to get the Cup going, away at Peterborough, who had a monstrous pack. The game plan was simple, get it wide quickly and keep moving it around. Two minutes in and Harry was over in the corner, and an impressive conversion in the wind from Alex. Shortly after, Finn opened his account but it took until near the half hour before they managed to break down the defence, Finn again scoring. We had made a number of substitutions, which may have unsettled the play but the lads were now on top again and Oisin ran 2/3rds of the pitch to score after a sublime flick on from Morgan - who was winded in the process! One for the team Morgan, well done!
Finn was at it again early in the second half, the backs shipping it wide, maybe a little slower than possible but the outcome was clear. Peterborough held firm and managed to pin Walden back for quite a long time, a few injuries meaning more changes and disruption. We settled again and upped the tempo, Harry VW, scoring followed by a superb run from John, beating two around the base of the scrum before a long sprint to score. Fraser finished a great team effort to give a 50-0 lead but from the restart we seemed to have stopped playing a little early and Peterborough scored in the closing seconds.
Walden played well, tackled hard with high tempo and deserved the big winning margin. Josh's work-rate was again immense, earning him man of the match. We did not kick with such a strong wind so we had to run all the ball, so exiting from defence was harder work than normal. Overall a great win for the boys and a good opener before two more cup games to follow over the next two weeks.
