Walden U15's happy with 37-17 away win at Diss
Excellent ball retention enables a 7 try match for Walden
Away at Diss and a real treat to play on their 1st team pitch. We started very well (unusual!) with Oisin scoring almost immediately from the start with excellent footwork, agility and speed. Shortly after Harry VW was involved with quality running from full back to build the phases and set Fraser over in the corner. Oisin scored again after and after a quarter we had a clear lead. Our pack, although smaller, was dominant in the scrum and breakdown, our mobility winning over size. Luke scored on 23 mins after some changes to the team and a few more forced by injury. Plankton off after an assured game at 9, replaced by Finn off the wing and James on the right wing. Although the changes didn't make a big difference the team lost concentration and allowed Diss though just before half time wo looked to have regained their belief and had their hackles up ready to fight back.
After the restart, fight back they did. Two further tries brought the score to 17-20, Walden needed to find something extra and with Finn really sparking at 9 we changed up a few gears and sparked into life. We had some superb passages of phase play with excellent support especially from the back row, all combining well. Fast and accurate breakdown work led to three further tries from Oisin, Fraser and Kaelen.
Our front row were strong all game and gave the team a superb platform to work from. the back five tackled, ran and rucked with vigour so we controlled the breakdown. Plankton settled well at 9 and then Finn found his confidence to really bring the game to life in the last 20 mins. Oisin was almost impossible to stop and Harry VW at 15 turned defence into attack every time with a remarkably cool head and strong return runs. Josh looked composed and assured at 10, mixing his game well. We need more variety in the midfield attack but overall a very good game.
Thank you to all at Diss for being such wonderful hosts, a great day out and a lovely club to visit. We really look forward to the return fixture in two months' time.
Very well played lads, Southwold next!
