SWRFC U15's vs Shelford RFC U15's

Superb performance in the sunshine....

Having already watched our U13's put in a fantastic performance, spirits were high and the traveling support was beginning to rouse...

We kicked to Shelford on the whistle and soon realised that today we cannot afford to miss tackles in the midfield. Shelfords 12 & 13 are big ball carriers and giving them to much space early on led to some desperate scramble defence and stretched tackles. Shelford were winning the gain line battle for the opening 10 minutes. Shelford capitalised on this and were soon 7 points up and playing in our 22. A silly penalty gave Shelford the opportunity to go further ahead, 10 points clear and looking in control. The lads soon stepped up and started to hit dominant tackles allowing our very mobile back row to slow the breakdown or turnover. Suddenly we had reversed the dominance at the gain line and we were away and playing. A simply superb turnover led to some breathtaking hands out to one wing, then some hard work from the forwards around the corner, then a cross field kick to space put Shelford under serious pressure in their own 22. a few phases later and we went through to score under their posts, 10-7. SW continued applying pressure in every area of the game and just before half time took a quick tap and go penalty, flooded through the 12/13 channel following a missed tackle and scored again under the posts, 10-14 to SW at half time...

The second half saw the SW lads dominate from the very start with clever, controlled and calculated field position. They were quite simply outstanding for most of this second half, probing and stretching the Shelford defence until opportunities appeared and then with clinical precision scored a further 5 tries and converted 2 of them, 10-43 to SW. Shelford played until the end and managed to score a single second half try to bring the game to a close at 15-43.

Well done to the squad that played today, it was a joy to watch you and the quite superb standard of rugby that you are playing.
