County Cup round 3 win for the U15's

On to the next round....

St Ives arrived at Henham this morning with only 13 players for round 3 of the County Cup. A difficult situation for all involved had to be addressed and a plan to ensure we could have a safe, player focused, balanced fixture ensued. We agreed to lend St Ives two of our players for the entire fixture, ensuring a full 15 v 15 match could be played. The two lads who payed for St Ives had a fantastic day on the field, playing their socks off. They made huge tackles against some of our most talented players and also carried hard in attack for the whole game. Well done lads, you should be very proud of your sportsmanship, the respect you showed the opposition players and the help you gave to the St Ives coaches.

The score is irrelevant in games like this, and even with us dropping numbers down, and removing some of our most talented players from the field, we could not get the balance right. I just hope none of the St Ives lads left feeling completely deflated!

The fixture was a bit of a waste of time, and a joint training session would have benefited all players and coaches involved, more than a very one sided game. I think the County Cup system needs to adapt to allow for huge mismatches in squad strengths going forward. Maybe allow teams to enter a Cup, Plate or Bowl level competition so all players get something out of these competitions.
