Walden lose to spirited Chelmsford comeback

In sunny but windy conditions at Henham, Saffron Walden and Chelmsford Colts contested a closely fought game, keeping the ball primarily in the pack which ultimately gave the tie to the visitors. In the first half we displayed moments of great flair and teamwork to score 4 tries including 2 memorable breaks from Oscar and Michael. We showed determined defence near our own line to limit the opposition to a couple of scores and despite not being at our best, with the score 26-12 at half time, a home win looked the most likely outcome. It didn't turn out that way...
In the second half, starved of possession by a mixture of Chelmsford's strong forward display and our inability to retain the ball, the visitors took the lead with 3 further tries. To make matters worse, a moment of madness saw Will sent off and, although this rallied the team temporarily to regain the lead, Chelmsford finished strongly with 2 more tries to win the game 43-31. We competed determinely to the end but the visitors showed greater commitment, executed their game plan well and deserved the victory. After the big win at Maldon this brings us back to earth with a bump but hopefully we'll learn from this as a squad and come back stronger in the coming weeks.
