Comfortable win at Sandy Lane

The Town made it back to back 4-0 victories, claiming the 3 points over a stubborn Lex XI side.

Goalkeeper Dan Cooper and Jake Johnson were unavailable, so the side welcomed back Winger Shaun Hughes and deputy GK Mike Edwards. With the pitch looking a picture, it was a clear challenge from Lex at 1st whistle - break us down if you can. Very well organised, the Town would have the majority of the possession, probing and trying to create that clear chance. All credit to Lex as their tactics were holding strong, and adding to their clear time wasting meant there was no rhythmn and flow to the home sides game, and when we did manage to break through, the impressive Lex keeper was there to keep it goalless, in particular saving well down low to his left from a fierce effort by Danny Burgess on 20 minutes.

A strong competitive feel to the match, with both sides not afraid to tackle, with the Town press bringing a series of niggly free kicks as Lex continued to kill the game and frustrate, with Jake Gibbons going in the book. A moment of madness out of character with the match would come in the the 36th minute though as an over the top, wreckless tackle from the opposition on Leon Jones, would see a deserved straight red card for the Lex Player. There was no movement in the away sides dogged determination and organisation though as it remained 0-0 going into the break.

A definete need for Saltney to up their game in the 2nd half, adding more purpose to their attacks. It was however Lex who had the chance to strike the 1st blow. An underhit pass left a moments hesitation in the back line, which left the Lex forward able to latch on and round the outstretched hands of Mike Edwards in goal, and despite getting to the ball 1st, was deemed to have taken the forward down, from the stand side of the ground looking a stonewall penalty. Mike and the other side of the ground strongly disagreed, and maybe justice prevailed as Mike dived superbly to his left to save the spot kick and push away to safety.

This was the kick up the backside we needed. The breakthrough came on 62. A deep corner was headed back across goal by Danny Burgess, leaving Rabih Jumaa a simple headed to open the scoring. This would be the confidence boost the Town needed, and it would be 1 way traffic from here.

The 2nd came on 77, as Rabih made it 4 goals in his first 3 appearances for the club, heading hme into the same square of net from a pinpoint cross from Shaun Hughes down the right wing.

With Lex now rattled, a Penalty 2 minutes later was dispatched by Ste Chiocchi, making it also 4 goals in his last 3 appearances for the marauding right back.

Their was still time for 1 more, as substitute Elliot Bond, still hungry to press and get amongst the scorers, the tall forward forced the error, latching onto a short back pass, with only 1 result as he confidently struck past the keeper to make it 4-0, and complete a good day for Dutt and the boys.

MOM once again was Midfielder Paul Johnson, continuing what has been a great start to his season. Great to see Johno getting the credit and plaudits he deserves not just over this season so far, but for his development over the last 12-18 months.

Next up is an enticing trip down the coast to face Anglesey side Llangefni Town in the JD Welsh Cup. The club have a bus leaving 11am, with very few seats remaining. Pleas eget in touch if you want to come along and support the Town!
