YMCA 0-1 Salts U17
Salts victorious in top of the table clash
The U17 Huddersfield League team’s best performance of the season as they took on the unbeaten YMCA side and ground out a well deserved win. The work rate of everyone was immense and I lost count of the number of huge tackles we put in as the lads were determined not to be beaten.
Although YMCA had marginally more possession they didn’t create many clear cut chances with the Salts defence looking solid. At the other end Jake Brown’s header was finger tipped over the bar. Then their centre back was fortunate to stay on the pitch when he brought down Nat Wilson Fleming on the edge of the box as he was clean through on goal. We got a break when YMCA were award a harsh penalty for handball but the kick hit the bar. 0-0 at the half.
Second period continued at a ferocious pace with YMCA having more possession but Salts creating the better chances . Luke Kelly produced several excellent crosses that were a whisker away from being converted. It was from Luke’s corner that Nathan Hirst volleyed the winning goal. As the game progressed the home side threw men forward and Cain Spencer was called into action several times including an amazing reaction save with just a few minutes to go. The defence held firm and the lads ran out deserved winners. Take a bow everyone!
