SALTS U17 4-1 BIRSTALL ROVERS
Hard earned victory . . .
With Kirklees closing their pitches on Tuesday the game was switched to Salts Sports Association. Unfortunately the persistent rain as well as a game immediately before us meant that the pitch was like treacle and made everything harder. The irony was that Birstall pitch was perfectly playable. Despite that, all 15 of the squad put in a big shift as we powered our way past a very good opposition.
Salts had most of the early play with Nathan Hirst and Finlay King bossing midfield. The pressure told when Alex Clark scored from Jamie Mitchell’s excellent cross. A precision through ball from Jake Brown then sent in Luke Kelly to double the score. Birstall had their chances and pulled one back when a free kick was drilled under our leaping wall. Half time 2-1.
Birstall had plenty of play after the break and looked most likely to score when, after a corner, Karl Harris floated a ball into the mixer and Jake Brown headed home. Luke Kelly’s through ball assisted Alex to his second to seal the victory. There was still time for Cain to pull off an excellent save before the final whistle
