Mistakes in the mud
After persistent rain before Saturday's game turning The Shand into what was starting to resemble the Somme the free flowing rugby that had been played at Doncaster was always going to be in short supply.
The welcome return of Bob Adam's at flyhalf playing his first competitive game in quite some time and John Munnelly at outside centre there was an air of expectation as the sides took the field. However after some close exchanges it was Mosborough who took the lead with a try by their prop from a line out on the 5 metre line driven infield with Sandal failing to protect the fringes, 0-5 with the conversion being missed.
From the kick off Sandal drove hard and after Mosborough infringed Sandal went for the posts, unfortunately the attempt was pushed wide. The breakdown was starting to become a war of attrition with Mosborough gaining the upper hand counter rucking with purpose.
Sandal were to cross the whitewash with a quickly taken penalty, Dave Bott feeding Matt Bramald who drove hard to the line only to be adjudged to have put a foot in touch.
Further close play drove Mosborough up field and after a loose clearance kick their No 11 finished off a flowing move after being thwarted by a brilliant last ditch tackle by Matt Bramald.
0-12 at halftime.
Changes were made bringing on Josh Milner, Jerome Longmore and the evergreen Dave Stafford which saw a bright start with Adje Burden and John Munnelly starting to punch holes, however at the breakdown Mosborough always had that one extra man spoiling at will.
After a number of long kicks downfield Mosborough's pressure paid off as the clearance kick was charged down with the ever dangerous Mosborough No 11 picking up and strolling over, 0-17 with the conversion going wide.
No matter how much Sandal huffed and puffed they couldn't breakdown Mosborough's defence and as the whistle blew their hard work and endeavour was to come to nothing.
WE WILL PREVAIL!!
