The Hurries welcomed Winchester to the Fairway on Saturday with the visitors sat on top of the league, with only one defeat so far this season.

The home side turned out a strong team but were put to the sword for the first twenty minutes by a rampant Winchester, Sandown couldn’t cope with the Winchester set plays as the visitors ran in four early tries without reply.

The Hurries went close on a couple of occasions through first WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Dean Gasper as he kicked ahead but just failed to touch the ball down as it rolled out of play agonizingly beyond his reach. Then with forwards Chris Perfect and BJ MEATS man-of-the-match Steve Perfect prominent, Greg Dean went close.

Skipper Michael Cooper made changes at half time as Damian Marriot, Steve Healey and Simon Maine joined the game, the second half was a different story with the Hurries going close through Al Morey, Josh Wetherick and Gasper again.

Winchester scored again but the Hurries hit straight back as Ross Edmunds crashed through to give the home side a well deserved try. For the rest of the half Sandown pushed Winchester back but could not find that finishing touch to bring the scores closer.

On the day a good performance from Sandown two's but Winchester were always in control and proved to be the best side that have visited the Fairway this season.
